Not necessarily. Previous Board experience is not required. However, candidates should have a basic understanding of Nymeo’s services and be willing to learn about credit union governance, financial matters and the responsibilities of serving on the Board. Training and educational opportunities are provided to help volunteers prepare for their roles.
The expected time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month, including preparation for and attendance at Board and committee meetings. Volunteers should be prepared to dedicate the necessary time and energy to participate meaningfully.
Nymeo Board members help guide the credit union’s mission, governance and strategic direction. They work together to establish policies, review financial goals, support the safety and soundness of the credit union, and help ensure Nymeo continues to serve its members.
Individuals interested in a volunteer position will participate in an interview with Nymeo’s Nominating Committee. If selected to move forward, new volunteers are introduced to the credit union’s structure and responsibilities and spend time with the CEO and Board to prepare for their role. Training and educational programs are also part of the onboarding process.
An Associate Board Member works alongside Nymeo’s Board of Directors to provide input and guidance on important areas such as strategic planning, financial goals, policies, regulatory compliance and the development of products and services. Associate Directors do not have voting privileges, but they have an opportunity to participate in Board and committee discussions and gain valuable experience in credit union governance.
Nymeo volunteers are expected to complete annual mandatory training, which may include topics such as Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), asset-liability management and financial statements. New volunteers also spend time becoming familiar with Nymeo’s structure, responsibilities and educational materials. Nymeo provides online training and additional educational opportunities for volunteers.
Nymeo is looking for engaged, community-minded individuals who communicate well, work collaboratively and are comfortable making thoughtful decisions. Strong candidates demonstrate integrity, leadership, sound judgment, open-mindedness and a genuine belief in Nymeo’s mission and future. A diversity of skills, backgrounds and perspectives is also valued.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and a Nymeo member in good standing. Board volunteers should demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, leadership and responsible personal and professional conduct. Candidates must also support Nymeo’s mission, vision and future.
